Two little monkeys jumping on the bed…

Ever look around you and want to shake things up?  You know, just throw the rules out the window for a minute and see what happens? This is what that looks like in our house…

Lifestyle image of two brothers jumping on the bed

Summer is in full swing around here…which is the nice way of saying momma is worn out.  I am even tired of hearing my own voice repeating things over and over so I can only imagine how my two boys feel.  Monday morning came and I just couldn’t bear the thought of the same old routine.  So, I grabbed my camera and said, “Boys, let’s go jump on the bed!”

Boy jumping on the bed

They looked at me like I had two heads!  But once they saw I was serious and this wasn’t a cruel joke, off they went!  And it was really fun (except when the oldest fell back and hit his head) but you know what they say about monkeys jumping on the bed.  Apparently, it isn’t just a fun nursery rhyme!

Besides the good time we all had (and I got to be the fun Mom for a change), they were so tired I got a few photo gems like this at the end…

Fifth Grade Graduation Picnic in Golden Valley, MN

Wow, where does the time go?  There are less than 5 days of school left and my head is spinning!  This time next week, my second grader will be bounding off the school bus with the biggest smile on his face and a backpack full of leftovers.  Leftover crayons, projects, and who knows what else?  For these 5th graders at the School of Engineering and Arts, the end of the school year has a bit more meaning.  They will be heading to middle school next year, where they will go from being a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a big pond.  I was invited to document their year end picnic and man, was it fun!  Hopefully, the pictures speak for themselves!

Engagement Brunch in Minnetonka, MN

With Minnesota becoming the most recent state to legalize same sex marriage, it seems only right to showcase this lovely engagement brunch I had the pleasure of witnessing.  It was a joyous time, with both families happily coming together to celebrate their daughters’ love.

Happy New Year!

Lateness seems to be the theme for me so far in 2013.  This is supposed to be my big New Year’s post, all about new beginnings and wiping the slate clean and all of that.  And here it is already 20 days into the year.   Huh.  Good thing I strongly believe it’s never too late.  For anything.

This year, I joined a group of women photographers in doing a Project 52.  Each week of the year has a different theme.  We chose one image from the week to share with everyone.  So far this has been a great experience for me.  I am fueled by these fellow women’s creativity.  It makes me want to push my own boundaries, which is amazing.

Here are the first three images (since, once again I am a little behind).

Week One

Engagement photo I do couple Christmas scrabble ring letters

This is my sister and her soon-to-be-husband!  They got engaged over Christmas and asked me to take their official engagement photo, which was so fun!  They both love to play scrabble so I thought we should incorporate that into it as well.  I am so excited for their June wedding!

Week Two

Macro image of winter ice feathers

This is a macro (extreme close up) shot of ice on our screen door.  Nature is especially beautiful when you can get close enough to really see all the details.  I can always see God’s touch when I take photos of nature like this.

Week Three

Kiss me candy hearts Valentine

This week’s theme was shallow DOF (depth of field).  Which refers to when a very specific part of an image is in focus and the rest is out of focus. I love shallow depth of field.  This is when I feel like I can be the most creative and really tell a story with my images.

I will be posting my Project 52 images here every week and if you don’t see a new one, well then you will know that I am really living up to my theme.  That’s the silver lining part, right?

Here’s to 2013!

Sandra ChetwyndJanuary 21, 2013 - 5:56 am

Happy 2013! Adore that ring shot.. so cute!

Family Christmas session in Minnetonka, MN

I love Christmas.  Like, really love Christmas.  Starting December 1st there is Christmas music playing all day.  My front porch is decked out.  My cards are ordered.  I am scouring Pinterest for recipes and decorating ideas.  I even start thinking what my wrapping theme will be this year.  Yes, I said theme.  As in, every year I pick different colors and materials to wrap with.  Told ya…

So, do I even need to say how fun it is for me to do Christmas photo sessions?
